The restated headline numbers for 2015 showed a loss of R126m from a R107m profit before and a headline loss of 48c compared to a 41c profit before. Amplats reported a 2% fall in refined platinum sales to 2.416-million ounces as the company drew down on its inventories. At the end of 2016, net debt had fallen to R7.3bn from R12.8bn the year before. Amplats swung to a profit of R696m for the year to end-December compared to a R12.4bn loss the previous year, in which it recorded hefty impairments. For 2016, Amplats said its headline earnings had increased to R1.9bn and its headline earnings per share was 713c.

LONDON--Mining services group Hargreaves Services PLC (HSP.LN) Wednesday reported a 75% fall in first-half pretax profit as a result of a decline in coal trading. Hargreaves said continuing pretax profit in the six months ended Nov. 30 fell to 173,000 pounds ($215,559) from GBP0.8 million a year earlier, while revenue fell 2.2% to GBP171 million. The group blamed the revenue fall on a reduction in coal sales and industrial service revenues following the closure of Redcar steelworks in north-east England and a number of coal-fired power stations. Underlying operating profit was GBP2.1 million compared with GBP4.1 million a year earlier. Net debt at the end of the first half was GBP36.9 million, up 19.8% versus the same period a year ago.
